Sip & Savor Event 2018:

In 1934 twelve Salinas women formed the Entre Nous Society. They met weekly and hosted a charity benefit, charging each guest fifty cents and distributing proceeds to local charities. A fashion show was added in 1935, beginning a long tradition of fundraising projects for their community.

Entre Nous meetings have always revolved around cooking and entertainment. In World War II, through Canteen Corps #1 and the USO, members learned how to plan and serve dinner for groups of 50 to 100, while adhering to budget and time restraints. After WW II, Entre Nous members continued their canteen and USO duties while publishing the first in a series of cookbooks and recipe card collections. The books and recipe cards have become collector’s items, with ongoing proceeds donated to Entre Nous philanthropic goals.

In 1998, Entre Nous members expanded their fundraising by presenting the Culinary Classic. Held for seven years, the event provided a venue for the foods, wines and services found in Monterey County. As a change of pace in 2006, members presented an al fresco luncheon with unique table settings and introduced their latest cookbook: “Entre Nous Celebrates!”. 2007 offered an evening of innovative tablescapes; and in 2009, Entre Nous “Celebrated Spring” with a seasonal luncheon.

In recent years, Casino Nights and a “Tail Gate Party” have been presented and, in 2014, “Fifty Shades of Fun” benefitting Interim, Inc., entertained a sell-out crowd. “An Autumn Affair” followed the next year with Coastal Kids Home Care receiving funds and, in 2016, “Our Harvest Table” supported Women Alive!@ Dorothy’s Kitchen. An exciting evening of food, drink and inspiration was created in 2018 when “Sip & Savor” was held in support of Partnership for Children. Our most recent event “Faire La Fete”, a luncheon and market with vintage treasures was held in May of 2023 benefiting “Alliance on Aging”.

Since 1934, Entre Nous Society, Inc. has contributed over $1,000,000 to a wide variety of worthwhile organizations in Monterey County. This year the members of Entre Nous presented an “An Organic Affair” featuring a culinary demonstration followed by a seasonally inspired lunch at Earthbound Farms in Carmel Valley. We raised funds for the Breast Cancer Assistance Group of Monterey County, providing support for breast cancer survivors.
